MINISTRY TRAINING & TESTING INFORMATION

The Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services has now confirmed the training & testing regulation in accordance with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005. Act

NEW APPLICATIONS

Effective April 15, 2010, all new applicants will be required to attend a 40 hour in class training course that will be offered by licenced agencies or authorized facilitators. The fee for this training will according to the provider and is the responsibility of the applicant. Once the applicant has completed the training course, the Ministry will be notified electronically.

Upon completion of the mandatory 40 hour in class training, the applicant must attend a recognized facility to complete the required Ministry test. Serco DES Inc., will be administering the said testing at a fee of $60.00 per test. Further details will be provided through their website. Test results will be forwarded to the Ministry and only those applicants who have successfully obtained a pass may apply to the Ministry for the required licence. It would appear that applicants may re-write the test at the fee of $60.00 in order to obtain a pass.

CURRENT LICENCEES

Individuals with Licences that will be expiring between April 15 and July 15, 2010 may apply for a renewal, without having to successfully complete the Ministry test. However, they will be required to pass the test by their next renewal date.

Individuals with Licences that will expire on/after July 16, 2010, will be required to successfully complete the Ministry test prior to submitting a renewal.

A renewal applicant, who fails to successfully complete the Ministry test prior to renewal will not be renewed and will no longer be authorized to hold a security guard licence. Should they wish to obtain the said licence, they must follow the regulations with respect to training and testing, prior to submitting a new application to obtain a security guard licence and obtain employment as a security guard.

TRAINING

Under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005, Training and Testing Regulations authorize an agency licenced to engage in the business of selling security guard services to provide a Basic Security Guard Training Program. As we are a licenced agency we have developed a training program, which is in conformity with required Training and Testing Regulations as based on the security guard training curriculum posted by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Private Security and Investigative Services Branch. It is important to know that the Ministry does not endorse any agency or training facility.
